Once the ‘DJ bug’ did its thing and the possibility of pursuing a career in making music became a real possibility, Cuebur chose to hone his skills at the renowned SCIM (SoulCandi Institute of Music) in Johannesburg. Along the way, he quietly created a hit record for local afro-house hit-maker, DJ Zinhle with the song ‘Pepe’. It was a smash hit on SA’s dance floors and introduced us to the budding 19 year old DJ and producer, Cuebur.

To South Africa’s ‘Joe Public’, Nicholas Mboweni may be just another talented young producer with one or two hot tunes on the radio right now. To the rest of the world, he’s the new South African house music icon storming worldwide charts with his seemingly endless remix work and a brand new album on one of electronic music’s most respected record labels, Defected. This is South African afro-house sensation, Cuebur.

Cuebur began his musical journey as a teenager in Middleburg, Mpumalanga, where he fiddled with music production software, oblivious to where it could one day take him. His talent was discovered by A&R (Artist & Repertoire) at local House Music label giant,Soul Candi, where he released his first album ‘Candi Roots’ with two other up and coming afro-house artists. It was there that Cuebur’s foundation as a solid club DJ and producer in SA was realized. Now at the peak of his career, he has given the house music fraternity a smash single No Doubt (featuring American singer, Marissa Guzman) and a full artist album ‘For Headz Only’ with Defected Records (London). With the likes of Simon Dunmore (Defected Records) and Nic Burger (SoulCandi) giving him the nod, No Doubt about it, possibilities for this gifted young producer look endless.
